Cats are said to be brought from China in the Nara period. Rare animals loved by the court nobility became familiar presence for the commons in the time of Edo.With the graceful figure and the beautiful eyes, somewhat mysterious cat has appeared as a motif of various arts since olden times.
This spring, approximately 1,000 artworks of creative and skilful contemporary artists will be displayed in “Hyakudan Kaidan”, the famous Showa architecture and one of the Tangible Cultural Properties Designated by Tokyo Prefecture.
